World Vegan Chocolate Day 2025
There is no doubt that the popularity of vegan chocolate is growing, and that World Vegan Chocolate Day on the 31st of January, is the decoration on the Veganuary cake.
As encouraged and envisaged by Plamil, the day is becoming more popular with consumers and brands, all taking on the day with their own celebrations.
Chocolate remains one of the most popular snacks and dessert flavours, despite the backdrop of increased prices in 2024. Unfortunately vegan chocolate team forecast significant and continuing price increases in 2025.
Towards the end of last summer, most believed we were at the end of the record high increases and that prices were starting to stabilise, although they weren’t expected to fall back to their 2023 levels. This started to change in November due to forecasted higher cocoa shortages and the prices of beans shot up to levels higher than the previous peaks.

This bean chart gives us an indication of what is happening with pricing of the further processed materials e.g. butter and liquor, but in recent months the prices of these processed materials has not always shown a direct correlation with any bean movement. There continues to be shortages in the market and these are anticipated to become worse over 2025. Securing supplies is becoming key, albeit not at any cost, but trying to balance price and availability is becoming problematic.
This is an interesting article which indicates all levels of producers are affected and also gives a little insight into the problems we all face.
Hershey’s latest smash-and-grab tactics add to nervousness in the cocoa market
At Vegan Chocolat we place cocoa contracts at various points of the season, and in 2024 used a blend of different priced contracts agreed at different time periods and so our customers have been somewhat protected from the major highs. However as purchasing cocoa contracts move forwards, the benefit of the lower price contracts diminishes and so we will shortly be costing our products based on the best market contracts that can be secured for the cocoa ingredients. You can see the scale of the issue on the above graph.
In a market place in which securing supply is becoming a factor in pricing, we are also advising that no matter the quantity purchased over the year, we recommend customers consider placing orders and holding as much stock as they can for peace of mind, and with the good old vegan adage in mind… ‘a bird in the hand’. The Vegan Chocolat team recognise the challenges faced by many customers, but we now are living in a world in which there is no longer a cocoa tap that can be turned ‘on or off’. There is real competition for the available cocoa. Securing supplies at a known price now maybe the best thing you do in 2025!
Despite the challenging news on price, the Vegan Chocolat team celebrate another year of all things vegan chocolate, being the trusted dairy free go to brand in which chefs, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and all can add chocolate as inclusions- on- over-enrobe- under- decorate and in all ways enjoy the taste of pure dairy free chocolate
Wishing everyone a happy World Vegan Chocolate Day.
